Phone mounts
Got my BRZ a week ago but I'm having trouble figuring out a good phone mount. I don't want to use an adhesive mount but not sure if a suction cup would stick well due to the textured dash surface? My husband uses a Beatsonic mount on his 1st gen but don't think anything like that will come with the new interior layout. The only place I think would work is the top of the glove box but not sure if it would grip well long term. I don't want to block any of the windshield so sticking it to the glass is out.
I'm going to use either a Scosche magic mount or RAM mount so just need something that will accept a ball joint.

I thought Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will display most everything on the 7 inch screen. What do you need to see your phone screen for?

It's more to get it out of the way. Being plugged in the center console means the only place to put it is the front cup holder which is just annoying to hit your elbow on all the time (we road trip a lot so the back cup holders are usually in use).
Also this was more a thought from a few days ago before I had a cord that Android Auto would recognize so I guess suggestions for just where to put my phone out of the way would work too haha. I use short cables just keep that in mind.

The 1st gen had a very convenient pocket on the back of the passenger seat, that would be great for occasions like that. I used it for my "data logging phone". Sadly, the 2nd gen doesn't have that pocket

I plug my phone in and route it around the seat and put it in the small door pocket, not the cup holder. Now the wire just sits on the floor to the left of my seat when nothing is plugged in. Felt a bit strange at first but find it very convenient now since there are no wires near the shifter or anything blocking the screen. Only thing for this is you'd have to get a longer cable.

You could get one that mounts to the passenger seat rail?

This one works pretty well, I did have to order a thinner phone case because the current one slips, but the phone by itself with a metal sticky works perfect.
I use the back seats and just toss my phone back there plugged into the centre console. Inside the cup holders means the phone is rattling around and potentially getting scratched if you don't use a case or screen protector. The back seats are soft and cushioned while also being quite deep so the phone is safe and protected. Those seats are almost entirely useless anyway.
